Y batalla a batalla podemos vencerlo.

To the German and Austrian students and lecturers,

We are following attentively your struggle from Corriente Roja (Red Trend), a revolutionary working class organisation from the Spanish State. In every country of the European Union, public education is being attacked by their governors, no matter the "colour" they belong to.

Last year, our Prime Minister Zapatero promoted a reform that force us to study a master’s degree in order to practise our profession but whose expenses are very difficult to be faced due to its high price. These measures enable the businessmen to control the University budget, thus they can change it according to their economic interests. These, among other measures, aims to turn education into a business.

But we, as students, did not standstill and faced the Government not only by breaking the silence against the process, but stopping the classes and causing strikes, demonstrations and occupying classrooms. Finally, in spite of some small achievements, the reform was basically imposed. As a consequence, we are now suffering the effects of this privatization, which has been strengthen by the economic crisis: lack of teaching staff, tax increase, dismissals, Investigation Dept. Budget cuts, grants reduction...

At the same time, lecturers and students were struggling, and they get important triumphs, in Greece, Italy or Ireland. For the same reasons, you in Austria and Germany are in the struggle now too.

Because of that, this is our struggle too. If you win, this process will suffer a defeat. And battle by battle, the victory is possible. We can see in the whole continent isolated actions, and we have to try to unify the movement: you canbe the beginning of that unification. As a last resort, we will win or lose all together, but we have to act united in our beliefs.

We support you and we are at your disposal for anything you need.

Courage and persistence!
